V&A Book Club

Audrey and I love to read. A LOT. However, with hundreds of books hitting the shelves each month, good books don't always get the notice they should. Hence, our book club.
Here, there are no rules. Fiction, non-fiction, romance, fantasy, whatever. If we liked a book, we'll share it with you. Happy reading!

The Spirit of Getting Organized
Pamela Kristan

I’ve bought several anti-clutter books over the years, and most of them make me feel guilty because I’m not better at de-cluttering. I’ve failed at: handling a piece of incoming mail only once, pruning unworn clothes from my closet with every change of season, and eliminating kitchen gadgets I haven’t used in twelve months. The list of my failures goes on.

I’m happy to say that Pamela Kristan (I like her so much I have the urge to call her My Friend Pam) didn’t take me on a guilt trip. She says that in this culture, we’re inundated with stuff and encouraged by the brightest advertising minds on the planet to get even more of it. She has both sympathy and empathy for our struggle with our stuff.

She also holds out a helping hand and provides workable solutions. According to Pamela, how we handle our stuff defines who we are. We are what we keep. That’s okay, but we want to make sure that what we have truly announces This Is Me. We also want to make sure we don’t drown in a sea of stuff.

Drowning in a sea of stuff is bad on an individual level, but Pamela leads us to the inescapable conclusion that it’s bad on a global level, as well. The good news is that fighting our own clutter can have a positive ripple effect on the rest of the world.

Pamela’s written a valuable book, one that I’m glad I stumbled upon. If you need any more reason to buy it and read it, go see the animated movie Wall-E. Soon you’ll be cleaning out closets with a song in your heart!

Lessons from a Courtesan
Jenna Petersen

I met Jenna Petersen about a year and a half ago at Celebrate Romance, and we quickly bonded over our shared love of Star Wars (yes, we’re both geeks). So when I found out that she writes historical romance, which I happen to love, I quickly devoured her backlist. And then I waited patiently…fairly patiently…a little impatiently…a lot impatiently for her next release.

But now the wait is over -- LESSONS FROM A COURTESAN is here! This book is a must buy for anyone who loves historical romance, or anyone who loves drool-worthy men, or anyone who…well, really anyone. I fell for Justin the moment he stepped into the room. He’s a complex hero with secrets a plenty, and Jenna does a wonderful job of slowly peeling back the layers of his personality and background until the passionate and loving man underneath is revealed. Victoria is a strong and fascinating heroine, who is the perfect counterpoint to Justin. Their passionate encounters will leave you breathless. You’ll want to keep a cool drink on hand for this one.

And once you’ve finished COURTESAN, be sure to check out Jenna’s lady spies series, which is based loosely on a historical version of Charlie’s Angels. May the force be with you.
